Basketball Recap: St. Margaret's Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

St. Margaret won the last time they faced New Covenant and things went their way on Friday too. The St. Margaret's Scotties strolled past the New Covenant Gryphons with points to spare, taking the game 52-33. Given the Scotties' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Gryphons are ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Gryphons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jocelyn Walker, who posted ten points. Walker is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Hannah Edwards was another key player, putting up eight points.

St. Margaret's has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. New Covenant's loss dropped their record down to 13-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: St. Margaret's beat New Covenant by a score of 52-32 later that day.
