Baseball Game Preview: Chester Clippers vs. Penn Wood Patriots

Chester has gone 8-2 against Penn Wood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Clippers will be playing at home against the Patriots at 3:30 p.m. Chester has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Tuesday, Chester needed a bit of extra time to put away Academy Park. They skirted past the Knights 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Clippers have posted since April 16, 2024.

Jorge Nunez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Chester's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, A-Saiah Payne was incredible, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jonathan Quiros was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Penn Wood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They came up short against Chichester, falling 16-0.

Chester's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8. As for Penn Wood, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.

Everything went Chester's way against Penn Wood in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Chester made off with a 16-0 victory. Do the Clippers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
