Softball Recap: Copperas Cove Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

While Copperas Cove's victory against Harker Heights wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldawgs had just enough and edged out the Knights 4-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldawgs have posted since February 15th.

Janell Gray made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brenna Butler, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Laila LaCapra, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Copperas Cove has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.9 runs. As for Harker Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 19-9.

Coincidentally, Copperas Cove and Harker Heights will both be playing Shoemaker the next time they take the field. The Bulldawgs will host the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Knights will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
