Baseball Recap: North Brunswick Comes Up Short

North Brunswick extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-15 in the process. They came up short against the Laney Buccaneers, falling 6-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Scorpions have suffered since May 2, 2024.

As for Laney, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-4. The result was nothing new for the Buccaneers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Laney's part, TJ Ziermann made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. Ziermann has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Laney let Carston Wedemeyer and Jack Holliman run wild. Wedemeyer went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Holliman went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Holliman has posted since back in March.

Looking ahead, North Brunswick will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Ashley at 6:30 p.m. The Screaming Eagle's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Scorpions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Laney, they will challenge Topsail at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
