Baseball Game Preview: Brevard Blue Devils vs. Polk County Wolverines

The Brevard Blue Devils will face off against the Polk County Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Brevard didn't have quite enough to beat Hendersonville and fell 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by just one run.

Polk County not only won last Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1st. They blew past Mountain Heritage 10-4.

Nate Fagan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on eight hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Polk County is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avrey Hensley, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Polk County is 3-1 when Hensley posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Karson Scruggs was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Hensley wasn't the only one making solid contact: Polk County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in five consecutive contests.

The victory got Polk County back to even at 6-6. As for Brevard, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Brevard skirted past Polk County 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
