Baseball Recap: George Wythe Takes a Loss

If George Wythe was feeling good fresh off their 10-4 takedown of Galax last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Maroons lost 17-8 to the Honaker Tigers on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-5 two weeks ago.

Cade Bralley was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. George Wythe is 2-1 when Bralley posts three or more hits, but 0-6-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carson Stanley, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

George Wythe's loss dropped their record down to 2-7-1. As for Honaker, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. George Wythe will face off against Bland County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Honaker, they will square off against Chilhowie at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
