Softball Recap: El Modena Takes a Loss

After flying high against Roosevelt on Friday, El Modena came back down to earth. The Vanguards lost 12-5 to the Canyon View Jaguars on Saturday. The Vanguards were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Brooklyn Calderon made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hallie Calderon, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

El Modena has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Canyon View, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.

El Modena didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-6 loss against La Habra on the 7th. As for Canyon View, they have also already played their next matchup, an 18-0 victory against Paradise Valley on the 7th.
