Baseball Recap: Spartanburg Day's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

The third road contest was the charm for Spartanburg Day, as they earned their first away win of the season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Oakbrook Prep Knights on Tuesday, sneaking past 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Griffins: when they faced off against the Knights back in March, they had to take a 8-7 defeat.

Gabe Smith was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Spartanburg Day's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Matty Lyle, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Spartanburg Day's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4. As for Oakbrook Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spartanburg Day will square off against Spartanburg Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Oakbrook Prep, they will challenge Westgate Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
