Basketball Preview: South Davidson Wildcats vs. Wheatmore Warriors

The South Davidson Wildcats will square off against the Wheatmore Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully South Davidson focused on turnovers this week as the team gave up 17 last Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, South Davidson didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Trinity, but they still walked away with a 36-30 victory.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Davidson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Whitney Driggers, who had six points in addition to nine rebounds. Driggers is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayra Hulin, who had 15 points along with two steals.

South Davidson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Wheatmore entered their matchup against Ledford on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Wheatmore took a 47-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ledford. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

With the defeat, Wheatmore broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-1. As for South Davidson, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Things could have been worse for South Davidson, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-30 loss to Wheatmore in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can South Davidson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
