Softball Recap: Maynard Extends Winning Streak to Four

Maynard came out on top against Gardner on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Tigers took their match against the Wildcats 7-4. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Jillian Macfarlane made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Elizabeth Schmidt and Maddy Karlon did most of the damage at the plate: Schmidt went 2-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double, while Karlon went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That triple was Schmidt's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Neveah Duplessis, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Maynard's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Gardner, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maynard will challenge Narragansett Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gardner, they will face off against Algonquin Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
