Preview: Houlton vs. Mattanawcook
The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Mattanawcook (5-3) takes on Houlton (3-5) in the first playoff game of the year. Mattanawcook has never lost back-to-back, and it wants to keep it that way.
After flying high the game before (56 points), Mattanawcook faltered in its previous match. Things didn't go well at all for it last week, where the team lost 40 - 0 to Foxcroft. Unfortunately, the defeat ended Mattanawcook's three-game winning streak.
As for Houlton, it brought the heat last game after its low-scoring effort (zero points) in the match before. It had all the answers against Washington Academy two weeks ago, winning 36 - 12. Houlton especially relied on sophomore Noah Reynolds, who tossed the ball for 159 yards and three TDs, and sophomore Will Belyea, who caught passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
The last time they met, Mattanawcook got away with a 24 - 20 win over Houlton. Can Mattanawcook repeat its success? We'll find out this Friday.
