The East Carteret Mariners will head out to challenge the Pamlico County Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Carteret will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
East Carteret barely beat Northside - Pinetown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mariners' pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 7-0 shutout on Friday. The Mariners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Lukas Styron looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eli Jenkins was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Chase Roberson, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Pamlico County made easy work of Southside on Wednesday and carried off a 10-4 win. The Hurricanes are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the sixth match they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Ayden Broughton and Jeremiah Mitchell made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Broughton pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Mitchell struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Pamlico County's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). At bat, Broughton scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Mitchell scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Broughton a new career-high in RBI (three).
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ross McLamb, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Pamlico County is undefeated when McLamb posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Lucas Browne was another, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Pamlico County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Pamlico County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for East Carteret, they pushed their record up to 16-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.
Pamlico County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: East Carteret hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. It's a different story for Pamlico County, though, as they've only averaged .215. Will they be able to contain East Carteret's hitters?
East Carteret came out on top in a nail-biter against Pamlico County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hurricanes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
