Hopewell-Loudon is 8-2 against Calvert since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Chieftains will face off against the Senecas at 1:00 p.m. Hopewell-Loudon is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
Hopewell-Loudon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They had just enough and edged out St. Joseph Central Catholic 15-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chieftains have posted since April 17th.
Morgan Hoover was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Avery Landers, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Calvert hadn't done well against Danbury recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Senecas put the hurt on the Lakers with a sharp 18-5 victory. Considering the Senecas have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Eilrich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Eilrich was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Calvert got a massive performance out of Gracie Miller, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Miller has posted since back in April. Scarlett Faber also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Calvert pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for Hopewell-Loudon, their record now sits at 18-8.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hopewell-Loudon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've averaged .378. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hopewell-Loudon came up short against Calvert when the teams last played back in April, falling 6-2. Can the Chieftains avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
