Softball Recap: Sabetha Drops Highest Score of Season Against Rossville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sabetha). They were the clear victors by a 20-10 margin over the Rossville Bulldogs on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bluejays as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Chloe Detweiler made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Halley Mitchell was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiera Keim, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Sabetha kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Sabetha's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Rossville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sabetha will take on Hiawatha at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8 runs per game on average), something the Bluejays will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rossville, they will head out to take on Mission Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
