Softball Game Preview: Souhegan Sabers vs. Kingswood Knights

Souhegan and Kingswood are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Sabers will square off against the Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Souhegan comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

On Friday, Souhegan didn't have quite enough to beat Pembroke and fell 11-10. Even though they lost, the Sabers' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.8 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Lexi Wolsky stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Avery Skelton also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kingswood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Plymouth a 12-0 shutout on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won seven in a row.

Avery G and Lily S did most of the damage at the plate: G went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while S went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and one double. Cae B was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Kingswood's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Souhegan, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Souhegan might still be hurting after the 18-4 defeat they got from Kingswood in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Sabers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
