Gage Kampman commands the offense for Lightning win

Recap: Liberty Lightning vs. Jefferson Hawks

Even though the Jefferson Hawks scored an imposing 65 points on Tuesday, the Liberty Lightning still came out on top. Liberty took their match against Jefferson 73-65. Given Liberty's advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Jefferson is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Liberty's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gage Kampman led the charge by scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Kampman continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Webb, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Liberty's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. As for Jefferson, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-17.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will take on Waterloo West at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jefferson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Xavier at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Xavier has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 180 points over their last three matches.
