Preview: West Forsyth Titans vs. Mount Tabor Spartans
West Forsyth is 9-1 against Mount Tabor since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Forsyth Titans will head out on the road to challenge the Mount Tabor Spartans at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully West Forsyth focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, West Forsyth was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 30-26 to East Forsyth. It was the first time this season that West Forsyth let down their fans at home.
Despite their defeat, West Forsyth saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Emma Staples, who scored ten points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Campbell McClain, who scored five points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mount Tabor scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 71-57 win over Parkland. Given Mount Tabor's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Parkland is ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Forsyth's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5. As for Mount Tabor, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
West Forsyth took their win against Mount Tabor when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 51-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Forsyth since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
