Two dominant signal callers in Kaeden Johnson and Savoy Nichols are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fort Bend Marshall Buffalos will take on the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Bend Marshall will be strutting in after a victory while University will be coming in after a defeat.
Fort Bend Marshall is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They never let Lee get on the board and left with a 50-0 win on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Fort Bend Marshall's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kameron Mathis, who rushed for 103 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries. Another receiver making a difference was Dazjhon Taylor, who gained 107 total yards and a touchdown.
Fort Bend Marshall's run defense was locked in: Lee could only muster 1.4 yards per carry. While three picked up at least three total tackles, Kameron Rucker stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks and made three total tackles (3.0 for loss). Fort Bend Marshall's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.25 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.6 on average over their last five games.

Fort Bend Marshall's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Rucker and Andre Meadows-Wade, who racked up four sacks between them. Meadows-Wade also made four total tackles, which is notable because Fort Bend Marshall is 5-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 1-2 otherwise. Jaquail Spriggs got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, University suffered their biggest loss since August 29th on Friday. They took a blow against Ellison, falling 60-23. The Trojans' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Fort Bend Marshall has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.2 points over those games. As for University, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.
Everything came up roses for Fort Bend Marshall against University in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 52-14 win. Will the Buffalos repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
