Basketball Recap: Garrett Crossman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nickerson over Halstead

Nickerson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Halstead Dragons. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly two points.

Nickerson lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Garrett Crossman, who went 6-for-13 en route to 18 points and seven assists. Those seven assists gave him a new career-high. Rashawn Walker was another key player, going 5-for-6 on his way to 10 points and four steals.

Nickerson's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Halstead, their record is now 7-9.

Nickerson and Halstead could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Nickerson (ranked 285th) will meet Hoisington (ranked 123rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Halstead will square off against Haven at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 173 places (202 vs. 29).
