Baseball Game Preview: Roncalli Jets vs. New Holstein Huskies

Roncalli is 1-9 against New Holstein since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Jets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Huskies at 4:30 p.m. Roncalli's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so New Holstein's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Monday, Roncalli didn't have quite enough to beat Peshtigo and fell 7-6.

Hayden Dewane put in work no matter where he played. He tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

Dewane wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jake Hillmer, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was Hillmer's first of the season.

Meanwhile, New Holstein suffered their closest loss since May 17, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Kewaskum by a score of 7-5. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Max Hellman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Parker Ziebell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Roncalli's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for New Holstein, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Roncalli has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New Holstein struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Roncalli might still be hurting after the 15-8 defeat they got from New Holstein in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Jets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
