The Segerstrom Jaguars will face off against the Esperanza Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,044 yards in their previous games.
On Friday, Segerstrom earned a 27-14 victory over St. Margaret's. The Jaguars pushed the score to 27-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tartans cut but never quite recovered from.
Ayden Morales had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also picking up 68 receiving yards. Noah Martinez was another key player, rushing for 55 yards and one score on only five carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Segerstrom was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 317 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards in 13 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Another reason for the win was Segerstrom's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Joshua Preciado was especially locked on to St. Margaret's QB and sacked him twice. With that strong performance, Preciado is now averaging an impressive 5.3 total tackles per game.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Esperanza). They were the clear victors by a 58-33 margin over Garden Grove on Friday. Given the Aztecs' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Argonauts are ranked 712th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Esperanza had a senior duo take command as Brody Snyder gained 201 total yards and four touchdowns and Travis Frazier threw for 450 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes. Frazier's passing game has become a key predictor of the Aztecs' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Joseph Fields helped Frazier out on the ground, rushing for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
Segerstrom pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.0 points over those games. As for Esperanza, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Segerstrom has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 265.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Esperanza, though, as they've been averaging only 50.5 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything went Segerstrom's way against Esperanza when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Segerstrom made off with a 49-29 victory. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Aztecs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
