Softball Game Preview: Thomaston Bears vs. Granby Memorial Bears

Thomaston will head out to face off against Granby Memorial at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thomaston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.

Thomaston will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Terryville on Wednesday. The Bears' pitcher stepped up to hand the Kangaroos a 19-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Sloan Walmsley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Walmsley was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Addison Patchell was a standout: she fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aylin Lahey, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple.

Meanwhile, Granby Memorial fell victim to Enfield and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 6-0. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Thomaston has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Granby Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
