Sahuaro extended their losing streak to 17 on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-22. They came up short against the Poston Butte Broncos, falling 14-7. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.
Adrian Montano and Stephan Arellano stepped up to the plate in a big way. Montano went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Arellano went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Auggie Holt, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for Poston Butte, their record is now 7-12. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21st (when they won 19-2).
On Poston Butte's side, Isael Aguilera made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Aguilera was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Poston Butte's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Poston Butte let Danlad Kasim and Ryan Cox run wild. Kasim got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Cox went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Kasim has become a key player for Poston Butte: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Matthew Hacegaba, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sahuaro will venture away from home to challenge Amphitheater at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 21.87 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Poston Butte, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bradshaw Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
