Softball Recap: Grand County's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Grand County came into Thursday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the North Sevier Wolves an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Red Devils have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

CHLOE Byrd made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. Those 18 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Kaiya Moore and Bailey Altoff did most of the damage at the plate: Moore went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Altoff scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three RBI gave Moore a new career-high.

Grand County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Grand County's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-6. As for North Sevier, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-3.

Grand County will have a chance to go back-to-back against North Sevier: the pair will be back at it again later today.
