Football Recap: Morris Knolls Starts Season with Win on the Road + How To Watch

Morris Knolls had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 21-14 victory over the Bayonne Bees on Friday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Golden Eagles were the (much) better team in the second half.

Among those leading the charge was Jaylin Jones, who rushed for 77 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Those 77 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Morris Knolls was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards in 12 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Bayonne still got an impressive performance from Chance Fischer, who rushed for 156 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Fischer was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.

Looking ahead, Morris Knolls will face off against West Morris Central at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The contest will give the Golden Eagles their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Bayonne, they will challenge Elizabeth at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
