Preview: Vista PEAK Prep Bison vs. Lewis-Palmer Rangers
Vista PEAK Prep has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Lewis-Palmer Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Vista PEAK Prep has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 29 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Eagle Ridge Academy 79-49 at home. Given Vista PEAK Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Eagle Ridge Academy is ranked 125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vista PEAK Prep's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Devontay Bursey, who scored 17 points, and James Brown III, who scored 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. Julian Carrizales was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, Lewis-Palmer made easy work of Steamboat Springs on Saturday and carried off a 77-54 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Lewis-Palmer.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lewis-Palmer to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nate Johnson, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Noah Johnson, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Vista PEAK Prep pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.7 points. As for Lewis-Palmer, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Vista PEAK Prep have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Lewis-Palmer, though, as they've been averaging only 28.1 rebounds per game. Given Vista PEAK Prep's sizeable advantage in that area, Lewis-Palmer will need to find a way to close that gap.
Vista PEAK Prep beat Lewis-Palmer 58-50 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Lewis-Palmer's Eli Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Vista PEAK Prep to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
