Recap: North Moore Mustangs vs. Bertie Falcons

The North Moore Mustangs had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 58-20 victory over Bertie. The result was nothing new for North Moore, who have now won nine games by 26 points or more so far this season.

North Moore got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Colby Pennington out in front who rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also caught a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Nathan Rogers, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jahkelvin Rascoe, who picked up 167 receiving yards and a touchdown. Tayvien Ward was another key contributor, throwing for 166 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes.

The win (which was North Moore's eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-11 Chatham Central and 0-11 Chatham Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 27.6% over those games). As for Bertie, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

North Moore will head out on the road to face off against Wilson Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilson Prep is on a seven-game streak of home wins, North Moore a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Bertie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
