Basketball Preview: Rock Springs TIGERS vs. Evanston Devils
The Rock Springs TIGERS will head out to square off against the Evanston Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rock Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Evanston likes a good challenge.
Last Saturday, Rock Springs came up short against East and fell 77-70. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (59), the TIGERS still had to take the loss.
Despite their loss, Rock Springs saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Arrington Purvis, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Boston James was another key player, going 6 for 11 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Rock Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Evanston unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Saturday. They took a 75-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bonneville.
Rock Springs has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Evanston, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
