Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Durham Academy). Everything went their way against the Kerr-Vance Academy Spartans on Friday as they made off with a 20-4 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cavaliers considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Zach Plavnik made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Benjamin Kuo, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Amare Burrus was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Durham Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kerr-Vance Academy only posted a batting average of .280.
