Baseball Recap: Smithville Takes a Loss

Smithville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Vardaman Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 last Tuesday.

Clay Eaton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Vardaman, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithville will take on Ingomar at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Vardaman, they will challenge Bruce at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bruce has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.25 runs per game on average), something Vardaman will no doubt try to take advantage of.
