Basketball Recap: Marshfield Comes Up Short

Marshfield came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 69-48 to the Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while the Old Abes are ranked 11th).

When it comes to explaining why Marshfield lost, don't look at Zaida Kolbeck. Despite the final result, she posted 26 points. The contest was Kolbeck's fourth in a row with at least 20 points. Hailey Klumb was another key player, putting up eight points.

Marshfield moved to 14-12 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points over those games. As for Eau Claire Memorial, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-2.

As of now, neither Marshfield nor Eau Claire Memorial have any future games scheduled.
