Preview: Wingate Bears vs. Socorro Warriors
Wingate has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Socorro Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Wingate is ranked 116th, while Socorro is ranked 132nd).
Wingate was handed a two-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Jemez Valley last Friday. Wingate was the clear victor by a 52-31 margin over Jemez Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Wingate has posted since December 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, Socorro's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 13th straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 62-38 defeat at the hands of Tularosa. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Socorro has suffered against Tularosa since November 28, 2015.
Wingate's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-9. As for Socorro, they bumped their record down to 1-13 with that loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Wingate beat Socorro 42-34 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wingate since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
