Basketball Recap: Michael Meza's Big Game Can't Quite Lead IDEA Edinburg College Prep over Vanguard Academy Rembrandt

IDEA Edinburg College Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to the Vanguard Academy Rembrandt Spartans at home by a 65-46 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against IDEA Edinburg College Prep this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-49 back in December of 2024.

Several IDEA Edinburg College Prep players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was MIchael Meza, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Justin Sanchez, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.

Vanguard Academy Rembrandt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damian Cantu led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. Cantu has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Gilardo Perez was another key player, going 8 for 16 en route to 19 points.

IDEA Edinburg College Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Vanguard Academy Rembrandt, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6.

IDEA Edinburg College Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-46 victory against Idea Academy on the 28th. Vanguard Academy Rembrandt has also already played their next match (against IDEA North Mission), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
