Softball Recap: LaVille Comes Up Short

LaVille extended their losing streak to 13 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-18 in the process. They came up short against the Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles, falling 17-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lancers of the 8-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

LaVille saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexis Owens, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Owens has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

As for Elkhart Christian Academy, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On Elkhart Christian Academy's side, Naomi Herbster was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Herbster has posted since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Elkhart Christian Academy got a big performance out of Brianna Ehninger, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Ryleigh Viront was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. LaVille will head out to square off against Bremen at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Hamilton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
