Basketball Recap: Wellsville Falls Short of Maplewood in the Playoffs

Wellsville and Maplewood squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Wellsville had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Maplewood Rockets and fell 68-16. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 705th, while the Rockets are ranked 241st).

Maplewood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Claire Urchek out in front who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc to rack up 24 points. Thanks to that strong game, Urchek now owns an excellent 46.2% shooting accuracy. Morgan Himes was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine assists.

Wellsville has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. The win (which was Maplewood's sixth in a row) raised their record to 22-2.

Wellsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Maplewood, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 49-45 defeat against Mogadore on the 22nd.
