Softball Recap: Abingdon/Avon's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Abingdon/Avon waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Farmington Farmers. That's more bragging rights for the Tornadoes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Emma Gunther, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 14 contests.

Abingdon/Avon's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-16. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Farmington, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Abingdon/Avon will venture away from home to take on Princeville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tornadoes are facing the Princes at the right time seeing as the Princes are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Farmington, they will head out on the road to challenge West Prairie at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cyclones have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.74 runs per game on average), something the Farmers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
