Baseball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Elk Lake

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elk Lake). Everything went their way against the Carbondale Area Chargers on Wednesday as they made off with a 20-4 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

John Heitsman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cohen Orlandini was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Logan Ayotte was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Elk Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carbondale Area only posted an OBP of .400.

The victory (which was Elk Lake's fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Carbondale Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Coincidentally, Elk Lake and Carbondale Area will both be playing Montrose the next time they take the field. The Warriors will head out to face the Meteors at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Chargers will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
