Softball Recap: Chavez Extends Winning Streak to Three

Chavez entered their tilt with Poly on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Parrots. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-9 back in April.

Gabby Duran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chavez let Lenina Garcia and Nadine Valdez run wild. Garcia went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Valdez went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Alyssa Anaya was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Chavez hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Chavez now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Poly, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chavez is set to challenge their familiar foe San Fernando at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Poly will face off against rival Verdugo Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
