League recap: Union County extends winning streak with victory over Chiefland

Union County extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 7 this week by beating Chiefland, 12-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

The Indians moved up to 314 from 412 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Chiefland climbed the ranks as a result of a 12-6 win over Chiefland.

Newberry's dynamic duo of Brandon Herbert and Monte Seabrook proved tough for Williston to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Herbert threw for 47 yards and one touchdown and Seabrook had 26 yards receiving. Tray Presley helped Newberry's passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.

Kendell Copeland was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 173 yards on 15 carries as Dixie County bested the Red Devils. Teammate James Bowers added to the ground attack by rushing for 150 yards.

Dixie County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bears feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Shaquille Mitchem has thrown for 389 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Duke Dawson has four catches for 112 yards. Bowers leads the league in rushing with 539 yards.

Newberry took down Williston 26-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tamarcus Faulkner ran for 107 yards in the win.
