Basketball Game Preview: Jay Mustangs vs. McCollum Cowboys

The Jay Mustangs will head out to take on the McCollum Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Jay is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 15 games.

Last Tuesday, Jay strolled past Southwest Legacy with points to spare, taking the game 64-47. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Titans are ranked 529th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camrin Garza led the charge by going 7 for 14 on his way to 19 points in addition to seven assists and six steals. Garza is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 34 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Guillen, who went 7 of 15 en route to 18 points.

Meanwhile, McCollum lost to Southwest at home by a 61-46 margin on Tuesday. The Cowboys haven't had much luck with the Dragons recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Jay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 22 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 29-2 record this season. As for McCollum, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-15.

Everything came up roses for Jay against McCollum when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured a 97-25 victory. In that game, Jay amassed a halftime lead of 49-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
