Softball Recap: Centerburg Sets Scoring Season-High Against Northmor

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Centerburg). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Northmor Golden Knights a 12-0 shutout on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 10, 2023, but that streak is no more.

The result came thanks to Morgan Beaver's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jazmyn Larimore and Chesnee Fairall did most of the damage at the plate: Larimore scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Fairall got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Larimore snagged this season. Lexi Moore was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

Centerburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matchups.

Centerburg's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Northmor, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Centerburg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-1 victory against Mt. Gilead on the 7th. As for Northmor, they have also already played their next match, a 10-2 win against South Central on the 5th.
