Football Game Preview: Moreau Catholic Mariners vs. Berkeley Yellowjackets

Moreau Catholic is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Saturday. They will square off against the Berkeley Yellowjackets at 1:00 p.m. Moreau Catholic will be strutting in after a win while Berkeley will be coming in after a defeat.

Moreau Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 35-24 victory over Balboa on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Mariners considering their six-point performance the contest before.

Meanwhile, Berkeley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. The game between the Yellowjackets and Granada didn't end well, with the Yellowjackets falling 28-13.

Moreau Catholic will need to focus on slowing down CALEB WRIGHT, one of several Berkeley players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 137 receiving yards and one touchdown. IDAN WADE-CURIEL was another key player, throwing for 205 yards and one TD while completing 78.6% of his passes.

Berkeley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut DAILEN CLARK. Berkeley got some further help from MARQUIS RUTLEDGE: he picked up two sacks and made six total tackles.

Moreau Catholic's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Berkeley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Moreau Catholic beat Berkeley 12-4 in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
