Softball Game Preview: Ludington Orioles vs. Onekama Portagers

The Ludington Orioles will head out to challenge the Onekama Portagers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Ludington is looking for their season's first victory.

Ludington came up short against Waverly on Saturday, falling 16-1.

Meanwhile, Onekama made easy work of Pentwater on Friday and carried off an 11-2 win. The Portagers haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Hailey Hart made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Hart was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

In other batting news, Heather Zielinski and Jasmine Lapp did most of the damage at the plate: Zielinski scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Lapp went 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ava Mauntler, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Ludington's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Onekama, their record now sits at 2-0.

Ludington suffered a grim 24-3 defeat to Onekama in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Orioles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
