Martin County has gone a perfect 3-0 against Gates County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Martin County Gators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gates County Red Barons at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Martin County's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Pasquotank County with a sharp 11-0 win. The victory was just business as usual for the Gators, who after five games remain undefeated this season.
Martin County got a massive performance out of Ty'Hiera Wooten, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Wooten has posted since back in April of 2024. Rylah Ethridge was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Martin County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Gates County got the win against Cape Hatteras on Thursday by a conclusive 15-3. The Red Barons haven't had any issues with the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Kamryn Riddick made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Riddick was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoey Nowell, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4. She is also on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Sheets, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Martin County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Gates County, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Martin County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .516. However, it's not like Gates County struggles in that department as they've averaged .504. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
