Football Recap: Asbury Park Bishops vs. Lakewood Piners
Asbury Park couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 52-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lakewood Piners on Friday. The Bishops were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Piners apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Rahmel Anderson went supernova for Lakewood, rushing for 353 yards while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Lakewood also got a significant boost from Zion Jones, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.
Lakewood's win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Asbury Park will welcome New Egypt on Friday. As for Lakewood, they are taking a road trip to challenge Monmouth Regional on Friday.
