Adams City dropped their record down to 7-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They lost 11-4 to the Skyview Wolverines. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wolverines earlier this season, when they won 6-3.
Miguel Rodriguez was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Rodriguez wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mauro Acosta, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Nathan Gonzalez was another, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
As for Skyview, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-9 record this season. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Like Adams City, Skyview also got a great game from a two-way player: Isaiah Rodriguez. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rodriguez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Skyview is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-8 otherwise. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Andrew Casillas was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Skyview: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jose Godoy-Corpuz, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Adams City didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-0 win against Gateway on the 22nd. As for Skyview, they will challenge Overland at 11:00 a.m. on the 26th. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trailblazers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
