The Curwensville Golden Tide will head out on the road to take on the Tussey Mountain Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Curwensville has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Tussey Mountain will come in with four straight wins.
On Friday, Curwensville lost to Glendale at home by a 34-20 margin. While the Golden Tide had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Vikings 13-7.
Curwensville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lincoln Hoyt, who rushed for 107 yards and one TD, and Sam Gustafson, who rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, Tussey Mountain earned a 21-14 victory over Clear Spring on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Titans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 397th in Pennsylvania, while the Blazers are ranked 185th in Maryland).
Curwensville better keep an eye on Noah Lucko. He was instrumental in Tussey Mountain's win, rushing for 160 yards and a pair of scores. They are undefeated when Lucko posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 0-3 otherwise.
Tussey Mountain was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
Curwensville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Tussey Mountain, their record is now 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Curwensville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 210.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tussey Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 193.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Curwensville came up short against Tussey Mountain in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 23-14. Thankfully for the Golden Tide, Landon Myers (who rushed for 131 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.7 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
