Franklin Community is 0-9 against Shelbyville since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Grizzly Cubs are taking a road trip to challenge the Golden Bears at 5:30 p.m. Franklin Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Franklin Community took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against Martinsville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Grizzly Cubs skirted past the Artesians 3-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Grizzly Cubs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Bryleigh Carlisle-Haltom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Franklin Community's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Adeline Blackwell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Franklin Community hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-3 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Shelbyville was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They came up short against Yorktown, falling 10-1. The Golden Bears' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Addison Stieneker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Franklin Community pushed their record up to 10-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Shelbyville, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.
Shelbyville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Franklin Community has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Shelbyville, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Franklin Community's sizable advantage in that area, the Golden Bears will need to find a way to close that gap.
Franklin Community couldn't quite get it done against Shelbyville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Grizzly Cubs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
