Ironwood Ridge posted their closest victory since September 20th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Nighthawks as it put an end to their four-match losing streak.
Ironwood Ridge took Mica Mountain into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 25-16, 28-26, 19-25, 22-25, 16-14.
Ashlyn Quiri paced Ironwood Ridge's offense, picking up 26 kills. Quiri got some help from Lydia Litkenhus and her 47 assists. Kallie George and Genesis Othon kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.
Despite the loss, Mica Mountain saw an underclassman step up: sophomore MIA PARKER had six digs, four aces, and one block. PARKER is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 19 or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was VANEZIA LOPEZ, who had six aces and four digs.
The victory got Ironwood Ridge back to even at 15-15. As for Mica Mountain, with the defeat, they broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 14-7.
Coincidentally, Ironwood Ridge and Mica Mountain will both be playing Walden Grove the next time they take the court. The Nighthawks will head out to face the Red Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Thunderbolts will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
