Softball Recap: Harlingen South Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Harlingen South put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Rivera Raiders. Considering the Hawks have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lexi Sandoval made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Harlingen South got a massive performance out of Jaylin Mata, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Mata has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Angela Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Harlingen South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rivera only posted an OBP of .150.

Harlingen South is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. Rivera's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Harlingen South will face off against rival Pace at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rivera is set to challenge their familiar foe Edcouch-Elsa at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
